작가 홍상식은 수만개의 빨대를 일일이 꽂아서 하나의 입체감이 완전히 살아 있는 듯한 작품을 만드는 한
국 조형 아티스트이다.
작가의 작품은 어린 시절 국수 다발을 손으로 툭툭 밀어 저부조로 올라오게끔 형상을 만들던 놀이에서 출
발, ‘국수’를 재료로 삼아 몸의 일부분을 크게 확장시켜 표현하다 철사, 대나무 등 재료적 실험을 거쳐 음
료용 ‘빨대’와 만나, 지금의 빨대 조형작품으로 발전하게 된다.
작가는 현대의 인간이 가진 욕망을 수만개의 빨대를 이용해 표현한 작품들을 보여준다. 작가는 목원대학
에서 조각 석사학위를 취득하고 뉴욕, 싱가포르, 스위스, 런던 등에서 전시를 가진 바 있다.

Artist Hong Sangsik is a Korean sculptor known for creating works with a striking sense of three-dimensionality by meticulously inserting tens of thousands of straws.

His work originates from a childhood game where he would push bundles of noodles with his hands to create relief-like forms. Initially, he experimented with materials such as noodles, wire, and bamboo to express enlarged parts of the body. Eventually, this experimentation led him to use drinking straws, evolving into his current straw sculptures.

Hong’s works vividly express the desires of modern humans using thousands of straws. He holds a master’s degree in sculpture from Mokwon University and has exhibited his works in New York, Singapore, Switzerland, London, and other international venues.
