Exhibition Theme
Inspired by the core elements of jazz, improvisation and rhythm, 〈Riffs and Rhythms〉 explores the contrasting yet harmonious artistic worlds of Kim Chanil and Sohn Jinah. The exhibition invites viewers to experience the visual interplay of energy and emotion, much like listening to a jazz duet where distinct styles converge to create a new rhythm.
Exhibition Concept
The exhibition draws parallels between the artists’ practices and the essence of jazz:

  • Kim Chanil creates intricate textures and layers on canvas, using materials like paint, stone powder, and metal powders. His meticulous process mirrors the repetitive yet innovative patterns of jazz riffs, offering a tactile resonance and rhythmic energy.
  • Sohn Jinah captures the fluidity of emotions through intuitive brushstrokes and organic lines. Her works flow like an improvisational jazz solo, embodying the raw and dynamic nature of emotional expression

Take the Flower Seriously challenges the traditional perception of femininity and its long-standing association with flowers.
